![]() If it is an Anatel Brand RT3090PCIE, replace it with a different brand or remove it and hook up to the internet with a Cat5 or Cat6 cable. If you are getting the "hang at 82%" error, check your internal WiFi card. Prior to this change the update failed at least 10 times as I searched the Internet for a solution and changed components in my system such as Memory and Hard Drives. Pull the WiFI card and the update goes smoothly. However, Version 16299 Upgrade does NOT want this WiFi card installed. Many upgrades to Windows have been done on the system without any problem. I connect to the Internet via Cat6 cable so never used the WIFi feature. This card has been in my system for four years and was a factory installed Component part of the Gateway DX4860. It is a "hardware" problem caused by the WI FI plug-in card made by Anatel. Once you’ve logged in and Windows works, just click Start and reboot your computer as you normally would.I found the problem on my system and suspect many other "store bought" computers have this same problem. It’ll look a bit funny because the screen resolution is much crappier in Safe Mode – this is normal. Just wait a few minutes (like 5-10) and eventually you’ll see a log in screen. The difference is that because your puter is in Safe Mode, there’s a whole lot of other nonsense that is NOT being loaded. Your puter will now boot into Safe Mode – no networking, no command prompt, just plain old Safe Mode.ĭO NOT PANIC if you see the same “Configuring updates” screen!! That’s normal, and this is exactly what you want. Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, move up to Safe Mode and tap the Enter key. In our case, you want to choose your normal C:, and then continue immediately tapping F8 again! If you see the “Configuring updates” screen again, go back to Step 1 and try again. This is what you’d do if you want to boot from, say, a USB stick instead of your normal C. ![]() IOW, your puter’s motherboard/BIOS/UEFI may ask you to Choose a boot device. Note that on some puters (especially laptops), tapping F8 may also be the key that displays the UEFI’s boot menu. The idea is to boot into Safe Mode, and F8 is the Magic Key that will bring up the Advanced Boot Options screen before Windows fires up. Okay, now that you’re booting again, you need to repeatedly tap the F8 key on your keyboard.
